Crystalline Silica Compliance

Updated Standard 1910.153

According to the new standard, medical surveillance must be made  available at no cost to every employee who will be occupationally  exposed to respirable crystalline silica at or above the action level (a  concentration of airborne respirable crystalline silica of 25 μg/m3,  calculated as an eight-hour time-weighted average) for 30 or more days  per year.  



   

WHAT MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE DO I NEED TO STAY COMPLIANT?

  • Pulmonary Function Exam (Performed by a NIOSH certified technician)
  • Chest X-RAY (Interpreted by a NIOSH certified B-Reader)
  • Physical Examination (emphasis on Pulmonary function)
  • TB testing
  • All testing must be conducted every three years

  • Cement & brick manufacturing
  • Asphalt pavement manufacturing
  • Ceramic manufacturing 
  • Tool and die
  • All employees that deal with abrasive blasting/ cutting/sanding of materials (sand, glass, paint, concrete)
